The College Discovery Process
A Clear Path from 9th Grade to Enrollment
The college discovery process begins with exploration and culminates with the enrollment deposit. Our team is proactive in research and assists families at every grade level — so you know what to do now and how to prepare for the transitions ahead.
9th Grade
Education programming, testing, and college-focused events
Grade-Level Meetings that guide families through the College Discovery Process and communicate what needs to happen now
Close work with the Academic Dean to plan courses and stay on track for college
10th Grade

Junior year we meet individually with families to help curate post-graduation options
Students will attend a college essay writing workshop in collaboration with the English Department and College Advising
All of our Juniors attend the College Application Workshop prior to leaving for summer vacation

Getting Started
When does college advising begin at LCA?
Beginning in 9th grade, LCA students and parents have the opportunity to work with our college advisors to navigate the journey to post-graduation.
Is college advising only for seniors?
No. Our Department of College Advising provides grade-level programming and meetings throughout high school — from exploration in 9th and 10th grade to intensive application support in junior and senior year.
What is the College Discovery Process?
It is LCA's framework for guiding students from exploration through enrollment. We help students understand their unique design, discover best-fit colleges, and steward their gifts for Kingdom work. Learn more about the process.

How do you help students find the right college fit?
We guide families to schools that fit academically, socially, spiritually, financially, and emotionally — not just by name recognition. Junior year focuses on defining that fit through research, family conferences, and individualized advising.
What application support does LCA provide?

Director of College Advising — 20+ years guiding families through college admissions, including leadership at Collin College and Christian schools across DFW. Currently and historically has served on 5 different college-affiliate boards.
College Advising Associate — dedicated to student and family success through 20 years of school service, four years of college advising, and professional certification in college advising.
