Senior Capstone Course
Seniors in the Capstone course choose between two dynamic options: a professional internship or an independent research project.
Internships place students directly in real-world work environments, offering invaluable hands-on experience and mentorship aligned with their future field of study.
Independent Research empowers students to pursue bold, self-directed projects — such as producing and recording an original music EP or launching a campus-wide environmental initiative — showcasing creativity, initiative, and purpose-driven impact.
Independent Study
Independent Study empowers students to engage in deep, self-directed exploration of a career-focused topic, culminating in a comprehensive research document that reflects their intellectual curiosity and initiative.

About the Program
What is the Professional Schools Program?
The Professional Schools Program (PSP) is Legacy’s Upper School initiative that helps students explore career interests through four professional schools — Business, Medicine, Engineering & Technology, and Arts & Humanities. Students gain hands-on coursework, certifications, symposiums with industry leaders, internships, and senior capstone or independent study experiences.
Which grades participate in PSP?
PSP is designed for Upper School students in grades 9–12. Students begin exploring pathways freshman year and deepen their focus through symposiums, specialized coursework, and senior-year internships or capstone projects.
How do students choose a school or concentration?
Students explore all four schools through freshman and sophomore coursework, symposiums, and mentorship from school Deans. As interests clarify, they select a professional school and concentration aligned with their gifts, goals, and calling — with guidance from faculty and the PSP leadership team.
Pathways & Experience
What is the Senior Capstone course?
Seniors choose between a professional internship in their field of interest or an independent research project. Internships provide real-world mentorship and workplace experience; independent research allows students to pursue bold, self-directed projects that showcase initiative and creativity.
What kinds of internships are available?
Internships align with each professional school — from business and finance settings to healthcare environments, engineering labs, tech companies, legal offices, arts organizations, and ministry or education contexts. Deans facilitate industry partnerships to connect students with meaningful placements.
What classes are part of PSP?
Examples include Business Concepts, Introduction to Health Medicine, and Mock Trial, along with concentration-specific courses across all four schools. Students also attend PSP symposiums and activity periods featuring industry professionals.

How does PSP support college preparation?
PSP complements LCA’s rigorous college-prep curriculum with career-focused depth — certifications, portfolio work, internship experience, and capstone projects that distinguish students on college applications. Our College Counseling team partners with PSP to align pathways with post-secondary goals.
