Inclement Weather & Distance Learning Policy

Legacy Christian Academy values the instructional time our teachers have with students. We have developed a policy that allows LCA to hold an instructional day even when winter weather affects our campus — with clear communication for every family.

By 6:30 AM Closure or delayed-start decisions communicated to families
10:00 AM Start Delayed opening when conditions allow a safe partial day
Multi-Channel Alerts App, phone, email, homepage, and social media
Distance Learning Ready Instruction continues when campus closes for weather

Morning Decisions

School Closure Decision

In the event of inclement weather, LCA will communicate on or before 6:30 a.m. LCA will use safety guidelines to determine if the school campus will close for the day or have a delayed start at 10:00 a.m.

Parent tip: Save the LCA app notifications and verify your contact information in FACTS/RenWeb before winter weather season begins.

Student Safety

Severe Weather Procedures During School

LCA regularly monitors storms in the area, the National Weather Service, and local TV and radio stations for any potential alerts or risks. Legacy receives regular updates and alerts from the Denton County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and the National Weather Service.

In the event severe weather is approaching during the school day, we will account for students and staff in secure locations and then communicate updates to parents.

Important: Legacy requests that parents do not come to school buildings in the middle of a storm to pick up their children. Please let school officials effectively respond during a weather emergency and follow Legacy’s communication outlets for updates (LCA App, Facebook, Instagram, phone, text, and email notification).

Dining on Weather Days

Lunch Plan

Breakfast will not be offered on a delayed-start day.

Early Learning Center students will receive purchased lunches if there is a delayed start on Tuesday or Thursday.

Learning Continues

Academic Distance Learning Policy

In the event that inclement weather causes the campus to be closed, an Academic Distance Learning Day may be implemented.

General Guidelines

  • Principals will communicate academic instructions via Schoology/SeeSaw and/or email.
  • If school is canceled for additional days, the Academic Distance Learning Day will repeat the procedures outlined below.
  • If a student is unable to complete assignments due to a power outage or other extenuating circumstances, teacher(s) will develop an appropriate timeline for incomplete work. A late penalty applies only if work is turned in later than the adjusted timeline.

Early Education

Pre-K 3, Pre-K 4, and Junior Kinder students will not be given assignments. Kinder teachers will email assignments by 10:30 a.m.

Lower School

Teachers will post assignments on SeeSaw or send via email no later than 10:30 a.m. Assignments will include due dates.

Middle & Upper School

Teachers will post assignments on Schoology no later than 10:30 a.m. Assignments will include due dates.
