Spanish Immersion LLC
Esperanza: multisensory Spanish literacy intervention for Spanish Immersion students who need structured support to read, write, and spell in Spanish.
Who It Is For
Support inside Spanish Immersion
Spanish Immersion LLC serves students in LCA’s Spanish Immersion program who have a documented educational need for accommodations and specialized literacy support. For kindergarten–2nd grade, need is determined by the classroom teacher, LLC teacher, and parent. For 3rd grade and up, a full diagnostic battery and qualifying neurodiverse diagnosis are required.
Current research suggests remediation in both languages is necessary for success for students with dyslexia. Approximately two years of Esperanza in Spanish and two years of Take Flight in English is recommended.

Requirements for Participation
- For kindergarten–2nd grade, need determined by the classroom teacher, LLC teacher, and parent
- For 3rd grade and up, completion of a full educational diagnostic battery (academic and achievement testing)
- For 3rd grade and up, a qualifying neurodiverse diagnosis
- Student must have a functional limitation (an educational need for accommodations and support)
Program Goals
Esperanza Reading Intervention
Esperanza uses a multisensory, sequential, systematic, and structured literacy approach to achieve Spanish literacy. Instruction is direct and cumulative: concepts are taught daily, students build on previous learning, and new skills are practiced through reading, writing, and spelling activities.
Structure of Spanish
Students systematically develop knowledge of Spanish so they can read, write, and spell with growing confidence.
Progress Monitoring
Screeners guide placement. Progress monitoring tools are administered after every 10 completed lessons.
Lessons engage auditory, visual, kinesthetic, and tactile modalities so students can learn in their own style. Esperanza has been a strong resource for Spanish Immersion students (Elsa Cardenas-Hagan, Ed.D.).
